Protest: 1 Jahr nach dem Massaker von Shanaosen

Am kommenden Sonntag, dem16.12., jährt sich das Massaker an streikenden ÖlarbeiterInnen in Shanaosen/Kasachstan zum ersten mal. Bis heute bleibt unbekannt, wieviele Menschen von Polizei und Armee erschossen wurden, Schätzungen gehen aber von mindestens 100 Opfern aus. Hinzu kamen zahlreiche Festnahmen und bis heute bleiben dutzende ArbeiterInnen in Haft.
Das Massaker war der Anfang einer neuen Welle von Repression, sowohl gegen die ArbeiterInnen und ihre Gewerkschaft Zhanartu als auch gegen ausgewählte AktivistInnen des Streiks und der Proteste.
Viele sind bereits im Exil, Andere, die nicht entkommen konnten wurde Opfer absurder Anklagen und Unrechtsprozesse. Erst kürzlich wurde Vadim Kuramashin im zweiten Anlauf in einem mehr als fragwürdigen Prozess zu 12 Jahren verurteilt.
Aber all das kann das Regime höchstens kurzfristig stabilisieren. Der Widerstand lässt sich dauerhaft unterdrücken, das Regime ist angezählt.
Die Brutalität des kasachischen Staates hällt österreichische Unternehmen und die Regierung nicht davon ab weiter beste Beziehungen zur kasachischen Diktatur zu erhalten. Kasachstan ist Österreichs wichtigster Öl-Lieferant.
Im Oktober kam der kasachische Diktator Nazarbajef nach Österreich um diese Beziehungen noch auszubauen. Er wurde unter anderem von Präsident Fischer mit Umarmung und militärischen Ehren empfangen.
Zum Jahrestag des Massakers wird es international Proteste vor kasachischen Einrichtungen geben, um Solidarität zu zeigen und den Druck auf das Regime zu erhöhen.

• In Österreich ruft die Sozialistische LinksPartei für Montag den 17.12. um 15h zu einer Kundgebung vor dem kasachischen Konsulat ( Wipplingerstr.35, 1010 Wien (Haus der EU)) auf.

To the Austrian President

One year after the massacre of Zhenazoen – and the terror against the opposition continues.

We, the signing persons and organizations, protest against the dramatic violation of human and trade union rights in Kazakhstan. One year ago, on December the 16th, up to 100 people where killed and insured by police and army in the massacre of Zhenazoen. This was followed by an still ongoing wave of repression against trade union activists, striking workers and human rights activists. The latest victim is Vadim Kuramshin, campaigner for prisoners right and member of the Socialist Movement Kazakhstan, who has been jailed for 12 years on the second attempt in a trial that was conducted with many breaches of procedure to say the least.

We are aware of the fact, that there are business relations between Austria and Kazakhstan and understand, that part of the Austrian representatives do ignore the fact the permanent violation of basic human rights in Kazakhstan. But we also know about a growing number of ordinary people, of political groups and organizations that do nether except the dictatorial situation in Kazakhstan that led to the closure of oppositional media recently nor the collaboration of Austrian representatives with it.

• Immediate release of Vadim Kuramshin and other political prisoners

• Stop all harassment of workers’ leaders and other activists!

• Hands off the mass media!

• Victory to the sacked and striking oil workers! Drop all charges against them!

• Full democratic rights now: free assembly, freedom of speech, the right to protest, to strike and to join independent trade unions!
