Resistance against FPÖ-ÖVP coalition starts

The cuts proposed by the new FPÖ-ÖVP government are even worse than the program of cuts proposed by the previous government. It is striking that, at the 1st February press conference, Haider, in his usual manner, refused to answer any of the question put forward to him by a victim of the Nazi regime. The new government already has broken its first promise - that of "transparency and broad information".

The SPÖ has proved its inability of stopping the Freedom Party entering into government. The appointment of new top officials inside the SPÖ will change nothing.

The coming to power of a FPÖ-ÖVP coalition, and the program of this government will come as a shock for many people. Protests against the new cuts in public spending and increased repression's are already taking place. Shops stewards, trade unionists, activists from the women and youth movements founded on Sunday 30 January 2000 the Socialist Left Party (Sozialistische Linkspartei) SLP. This new party originates from the Sozialistische Offensive Vorwärts, SOV.

"We regard it as it is our duty, to offer all those people who want to get active against the social cuts and the move to the right, a party that they not only can vote for, but a party they get be active in and work together with. The SPÖ is no longer a party for working class people - it is necessary to build up such a party!" says Sonja Grusch, Spokesperson of the SLP.

The SLP is planing a number of future activities such as a school student strike against the FPÖ.
